CFAA is a community company in place to lead, lobby for and support the development of the parish of Achill both infrastructurally, socially and culturally. It is a not for profit company limited by guarantee with no share capital and a registered charity. Helping businesses grow profitably, promoting the use of the Irish Language, alleviating personal and commununal disadvantage and helping to develop infrastructure are all key objectives for CFAA Members & Staff. NEW! The Achill Experience

The Achill Experience will be Achill’s first all-weather visitor centre and Mayo’s first Aquarium comprising of the following;

  • Two salt water tanks themed on Achill’s Minaun Cliffs and a Spanish Armada Ship Wreck off Achill Beg – stocked with fish natural to our waters. You will learn about what is in the deep blue sea that we look out on.
  • An open Touch tank that will allow for all to engage with the fish and experience what it may be like to even touch one!
  • Tropical Tanks where the much loved Nemo and friends can be found.
  • Learning about Achill’s famous basking sharks through Audio and touch and feel displays.
  • Sit in our re-built Deserted Village Boley house common to Achill throughout the 17th and 18th Centuries. You will learn through Audio Visual interpretation the story of the Achill Deserted Village and get to understand what life was like through those times.
  • School tour experiences are being organised where students will participate in a Tutor led afternoon workshop where they will get to design and make their own pop up cottage and get to take home as a lasting memento of their experience.

Achill Link Magazine 2016

CFAA produces the Achill Link - a fantastic snapshot of Achill community life containing articles ranging from local issues and thoughts to those of our Achill Diaspora scattered all over the world. Archived copies of the magazine are available from CFAA and this present 2016 publication can be purchased for €5.

Tourism, Heritage and Cultural Studies

Comhlacht Forbartha Aitiúil Acla/ Achill Local Development Company Invite inquiries from persons interested in participating in our new Tourism,Heritage and Cultural Studies, FETAC Level 5 Major Award.. Course takes place in Achill, Co. Mayo. Eligibility per DSP/MSLETB Guidelines. Trainees will receive a training allowance including travel if applicable. The course will run for 44 week duration on a full-time basis. Modules to include the following: Archaeology, Appreciation of Irish Culture, Folklore and Ethnology, Heritage Tourism, Local History, Communications, Customer Service, Work Experience.

Start Your Own Business Course

We are, in conjunction with Udaras na Gaeltachta, organising a Start Your Own Business Course to run over 4 days in the months of May & June. (Four Mondays)

The programme will be professionally delivered by an industry expert with years of experience. You do not need to have any previous qualifications. This is a very practical "hands on" course covering all aspects of starting and running a business from planning to finance, marketing to being an employer possibly for the first time.

This course will cost €100 per person and places are limited. On completion of the programme CFAA will be able to work with and support any individual who would like to progress with their idea in terms of access to appropriate state agencies, administrative support and advice.

CFAA opens language & culture office in Achill Sound

Comhlacht Forbartha Aitiuil Acla which has provided a broad range of services to the parish of Achill for the last 15 years from Aras Forbairt Acla, including the promotion and development of Irish, is opening a new language and culture office in Achill Sound. It is to be located in the UdarAs na Gaeltachta building adjacent to the Achill Credit Union. Terence Dever, CEO of CFAA outlined the importance of this office, 'working with our partners in Udaras na Gaeltachta and other stakeholders in the parish of Achill, this office will focus on Irish language development and cultural activities'. Pat Kilbane, CEO of CFAA has outlined that the parish of Achill, like all Gaeltacht parishes are being assessed as part of a review of Gaeltacht boundaries. As part of this review, the people of Achill will have an opportunity to actively engage in a process to determine the future of Irish as a spoken language within the parish. Coiste Cultúir agus teanga CFAA which is the culture and language sub-committee in CFAA are actively developing a strategy to help ensure the future of spoken Irish in the parish and is looking forward to engaging with all groups in the parish as part of this process.

Master your VAT return in a one day course: Comhlacht Forbartha Áitiúil Acla are running a one day VAT return course for small businesses in Áras Forbairt Acla, Keel. The programme will be professionally delivered by an industry expert with years of experience. This is a great opportunity for you to avail of help with managing your business finances. The course will cover a number of important topic’s, some of which are: Introduction to VAT, Benefits/Advantages of VAT Registration, Creditors & Debtor’s ledger, Different VAT rates.
