Bunaíodh Cumarsáid Acla i 1998 chun traenáil a chur ar fáil do phobal Acla, am a raibh coitiantacht agus riachtanas an ríomhaire ag éirigh níos tábhachtaí i saol na haimsire. Thainig na sluaite chuig na ranganna do thosaitheoirí i rith an chéad cheithre nó chúig bliana . As sin d'eascair gá do ranganna feabhsaitheoirí agus as sin amach bhí riachtanas ann do chuile chineál cúrsaí. Ta réim mhór cúrsaí ar fáil ag an am seo againn i gCumarsáid Acla agus sár-theagascóirí chun na cúrsai éagsúla seo a mhúineadh.

Cumarsáid Acla / Achill Community IT Centre, was set up in 1998 to provide IT training at a time when home computers were just becoming popular. Hundreds of local people attended beginners' classes over the first few years, progressing on to 'improvers', and a demand was gradually created for a wide range of courses in IT. Today, Cumarsáid Acla is also involved in non-IT skills training, continuing to address the different needs of people living in the area.

We have a wide range of courses designed to introduce people to information technology. We understand that those of you who have never 'clicked with a mouse' have serious concerns about your ability to learn how to use (what seems to be) complicated machinery. We can bring along absolute beginners on an IT journey, for that's what it becomes once you get a taste for using computers. There's always a bit more they want to find out about how IT can improve their life.

There's no need to worry; you'll be taught all you need to know about the equipment (hardware) and programs (applications / software) that make up a computer system, and all in simple, easy to understand language. You definitely do not need a PhD to use a computer, and why not keep up with your kids?!

Whether you're interested in writing letters or diaries, using email, 'surfing the web', keeping accounts, digital photography, or learning higher-level skills such as web design, desktop publishing, graphics or computer maintenance, we have a course for you.

We also run full-time, up to six months long, comprehensive and intensive courses. These courses, leading to National Certification, give people the necessary skills and confidence to get into employment. They have included Call-Centre Operations and e-Business courses, and many of those who completed them are now employed locally. Employers always have a need for personnel with keyboard skills and a good knowledge of office software.

If your own requirements or circumstances are unique, we can offer courses tailored precisely to your needs, either in our Centre or at your home or office. If you belong to a group with a special interest, we can also design a course to suit you. Whatever your needs are, we can help!
