Local Development Social Inclusion Programme The
programme, part of the National Development Plan, allows Comhlacht Forbartha Áitiúil
Acla, the only Parish-wide Community Development Company in Achill, to give advice
and guidance, and in some cases small-scale financial assistance, to members of
target groups under 3 different measures: Services to the Unemployed, Community
Development and Locally based Youth Initiatives. During
a recent Open Day at Comhlacht Forbartha Áitiúil Acla's headquarters
at Áras Forbairt Acla, Tony Cawley, chairman of CFÁA's Evaluation
Committee, presented small-scale grants from the Local Development Social Inclusion
Programme to successful applicants. CFÁA
has awarded small-scale grants to many individuals and organisations over the
past 7 years. Some of the more recent recipients were local entrepreneurs developing
feasibility studies, the new Achill Scouts and several other local youth groups,
Achill Women's Group, village enhancement schemes and local community development
organisations. CFÁA Presents Grants:During

has awarded small-scale grants to many individuals and organisations over the
years. Some of the more recent recipients were entrepeneurs developing their feasibility
studies, the new Achill Scouts and other local youth groups, Achill Women's Group,
local village enhancement schemes and local development organisations. One
such organisation is Coiste Chill Damhnait, which provided infrastructure in the
form of a new pier at Cé Bheag, near Grainuaile's Castle and the 15th Century
Naomh Damhnait Church. With the assistance of labour from participants on the
Rural Social Scheme, the group is
restoring an old stone wall around the graveyard. Their next project will be the
erection of a restored stone cross in the Church yard. The LDSIP grant will help
to pay for some of the materials required for the project. | |
